Yoon & Yang established and operates the Public Interest Legal Consultation and Dispute Resolution Center to protect the rights of the underprivileged and minorities in our society.
Yoon & Yang provides legal counseling and advice to marginalized groups in desperate need of legal assistance and engages in various public interest lawsuits. In September 2016, Yoon & Yang Pro Bono Foundation opened the Public Interest Legal Counseling and Dispute Resolution Center. When people such as basic livelihood security recipients, immigrants, refugees, disabled persons, North Korean defectors, and victims of domestic violence, school violence, and sexual violence—who have difficulty accessing legal assistance due to social and economic reasons—seek help from Yoon & Yang, they are provided with legal services, and Yoon & Yang actively identifies and supports cases of public interest.
The Dispute Resolution Center helps parties reach agreements and resolves disputes amicably before they reach litigation. Even if the issue is not highly public, if both parties wish for mediation and the need and suitability for mediation are recognized, the dispute mediation procedure is initiated. Legal experts from various fields participate as mediators, striving to derive fair results for both parties, and if the parties accept the outcome, it has the effect of reconciliation under the Korean Civil Act. The dispute mediation system plays a role in reducing the social and economic costs associated with litigation.
